Uttar Pradesh will split captaincy and coaching duties between red-ball and white-ball formats for the upcoming domestic season, a move the state has not previously implemented.
Aryan Juyal and Gyanendra Pandey will lead Uttar Pradesh's Ranji Trophy team. Karan Sharma and Sudip Tyagi will captain the white-ball squads. The coaching structure mirrors this division, with separate coaching staff appointed for each format.
The Ranji squad includes fast bowler Yash Dayal, wicketkeeper-batter Zeeshan Ansari and all-rounder Abhinandan Singh among its notable names.
The decision to separate format-specific leadership reflects an emerging approach in Indian domestic cricket. By assigning dedicated captains and coaches to red-ball and white-ball competitions, Uttar Pradesh aims to allow leadership to specialise in the distinct demands of each format. Red-ball cricket emphasises test conditions and multi-day endurance, while white-ball formats reward aggressive, rapid decision-making across shorter timeframes.
Uttar Pradesh competes in India's domestic cricket structure, which includes the Ranji Trophy (first-class cricket), the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy (white-ball tournaments).
