VALORANT's competitive ladder has nine ranks, from Iron to Radiant, and 25 tiers in total once Iron 1 through Immortal 3 and Radiant are counted. Iron through Immortal each have three tiers. Radiant sits above Immortal 3 and has no tiers.

The rules come from Riot's support pages as of October 30, 2026. The article says Act 6 of the year began with patch 13.08 on October 13. ESTNN did not test any of this in game.

RR, or Rank Rating, is the points total behind a player's rank. According to Riot, going AFK or dodging queue for a prolonged period also costs RR. Riot's page on that range does not mention rank decay.

From Immortal 2 up, the RR needed depends on region. Radiant also requires a place in the top 500 of the player's regional leaderboard. Both conditions must be met. Immortal and Radiant RR has no upper cap and depends on match results alone, so performance bonuses do not apply. A player drops out of Immortal 2 or 3 by falling below the regional cutoff. A Radiant player is demoted by falling below the Radiant cutoff or by losing more RR than the lowest-RR Radiant player. To keep a leaderboard spot, a player must play at least one competitive game every 7 days.

Each Episode has six Acts. Players complete five placement matches at the start of Act 1 and Act 4, and one placement match in the other Acts. Competitive play requires level 20. A rank does not drop automatically at the start of an Act, though a poor placement can lower it.

At the start of Acts 2 and 3, Immortal and Radiant players are treated differently. Leaderboard position stays the same, RR drops by 90%, and every Radiant player returns to Immortal until they qualify again.

Riot's pages do not agree on the highest rank a placement can give. Two pages name Ascendant 1, and the Iron through Ascendant page names Ascendant 3. ESTNN does not state a cap.

An Act Rank is a badge based on a player's highest ranked win in the Act, which Riot calls proven skill. A player needs at least 9 competitive wins in an Act to earn it, and it is awarded only when the Act ends. The badge border upgrades at 9, 25, 50, 75 and 100 wins. At Mid-Season and at the end of the Season, players also receive a gun buddy that matches their highest Act Rank.

Riot does not publish rank distribution percentages on these pages. Third-party trackers publish estimates, but ESTNN left them out because the figures differ from one Act to the next.
